Durban, or in the language of the Zulu eThekwini, has with about 600.000 inhabitants roughly as many inhabitants, as Bremen does. eThekwini is also the name of the municipality, to which Durban and its surroundings belong. With its 3,4 million inhabitants, it is the third biggest municipality after Johannesburg und Cape Town. The people of Durban share very different backgrounds and have their unique cultural heritage with which they contribute in the tradition of the South African “Rainbow Nation” to the charm of Durban.
Due to its location right at the Indian Ocean, the town offers numerous beaches and with its subtropical climate and 250 days of sun per year, Durban offers great opportunities for water sports all year long.
Durban was also one of the locations for the Football World Championship in 2010.
